MEET THE
SPACE-OFF TEAM

Space-Off Party Board Game - Chief Executive Officer/CEO: Daniel Robinson

DANIEL ROBINSON

  • The captain of our crew, Daniel Robinson oversees game design, marketing strategies, and the overall vision for Space-Off and Rule 1 Games’ future projects.

Leaning on his boundless enthusiasm, a doctorate in physical therapy, and a knack for thinking outside the box (if not outside the solar system), Daniel invents challenges for the brain and body that are original, accessible, and hilarious.

Space-Off Party Board Game - Chief Operating Officer/COO: Yaelle Sieh

YAELLE SIEH

  • The glue that holds our crew together. When Daniel’s ideas start having ideas, Yaelle steps in to keep everything in perspective and on-track — which includes IP and logistics for Rule 1 Games.

A post-production audio engineer working in Hollywood, Yaelle is no stranger to creative industry task management. Her passion for comics, anime, and random sports facts is matched only by her oldest son’s rocket expertise (he may have some corrections when he reads Space-Off’s lore).

Space-Off Party Board Game - Director of Development: Avi Yudkowsky

AVI YUDKOWKSY

  • Avi majorly shaped Space-Off’s early incarnations (he even narrated a homemade trailer for it, which may or may not be hidden on this site). His current contributions and expertise include game mechanics, networking, and innovative marketing concepts.

With years of experience in health administration, Avi brings exceptional people skills and infectious positivity to the team. An enthusiast of all things nerdy, his game and entertainment knowledge is as a wellspring of insight and inspiration.

Space-Off Party Board Game - Design Director: Sula Medovoy

SULA MEDOVOY

  • Sula “Big Shot” Medovoy is responsible for the characters and visuals that have captured the hearts of our players.

By day, she deals primarily in packaging design (with some animation and illustration projects on the side). In fact, you’ve probably seen Sula’s work around your kitchen and pantry!

Off the clock, she listens to podcasts, goes to comedy shows, and explores the outdoors — often in the company of her partner, Adrian.

Space-Off Party Board Game - Director of Copy: Adrian Adamiec

ADRIAN ADAMIEC

  • Adrian will have you know that, upon reading one of his puns, a Space-Off playtester once dubbed him “the world’s smartest man.”

It makes him sad when people skip the titles and flavor text on cards during board games. Which is basically always.

He once lost a spelling bee in fourth grade over the word “chocolate.” That’s especially embarrassing considering how much he likes it (only slightly less than he likes Sula).

Space-Off Party Board Game - Director of Quality Control: Elie Saltzman

ELIE SALTZMAN

  • One of the game’s earliest contributors, Elie holds a Psy.D. and has a background in pediatric psychology. With someone who knows so much about brains, Space-Off’s puzzles and covert missions are in good hands.

Elie’s care and attention to detail, as well as his extensive board game experience, make him perfect for his role. They also compliment his other responsibilities of “coach” and “dad.”

from a basement to the stars

Space-Off CEO, Daniel Robinson, Showing off the Original Game's Tug Board

Our CEO displays his trademark enthusiasm next to The Game of Basement Games’ “Tugboard.”

One fateful night in 2012, our high school friend group, a.k.a. “The Book Club,” was doing what we did best — watching TV.

Inspired by the on-screen antics of four eccentric Philadelphians, Daniel and Yaelle decided that making our own absurd board game sounded like fun. “You guys can’t make a game,” Elie weighed in, creating a massive wave of support for the idea.

Over the next months and years, hundreds of hours that should’ve been used responsibly went towards game development. ”The Game of Basement Games” (or simply, “The Game”) turned out better than anyone hoped, with one tiny area for improvement: the component list. Among other things, it called for retro video games, old tires, all-purpose flour, a bench press, and live insects.

The aliens of Oopiter in their earliest rendition.

Years later, Daniel told his friends Adrian and Sula about his awesome, unmarketable game. Building on the core mechanics, they filled it with pretty colors, cute aliens, and stupid puns. Space-Off was born.

After three playtests, Space-Off felt ready for the second-largest board game convention in the world. Over a hundred strangers played it at Gen Con 2023… and afterwards, most of them asked us where they could buy a copy!

Since then, our demo boxes have been everywhere from Oregon to New Zealand. We’re astronomically grateful for everyone’s feedback and support as we dial in the details and get ready to launch on Kickstarter in 2025!
